HIGH WATER UPDATE: Section of Rt. 52 in Wythe could be closed for a week

NEWS RELEASE:

BRISTOL – A section of Route 52 in Wythe County is closed to through traffic due to slide and culvert repairs following heavy rains. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews anticipate the work taking one week to complete.

Route 52 is closed to through traffic from Route 680 (Black Lick Road) to the Wythe/Bland County line. Route 717 is also closed to through traffic.

VDOT crews should finish the culvert repairs today; however, slide repairs will take approximately one week. Motorists are advised to use caution and through traffic should plan alternate routes.

(WVVA) Law enforcement in Wythe County say there are 15 roads impacted by flood waters.

Some of the worst flooding has occurred on Max Meadows Road. 

According to Wythe County Sheriff Keith Dunagan, there is also a mudslide reported on Route 52 just north of State Road 7/17. VDOT crews have responded to the mudslide site.  At lease three roadways have been closed in Wythe County. Sheriff Dunagan  says the flood waters are starting to recede. 

Schools in Bland County are closed. Giles Elementary School was on a two-hour delay Monday morning.
