Flood warning issued throughout Virginia, West Virginia

CHARLESTON, WV (AP) - Heavy rains have closed dozens of roads, washed out a temporary bridge and prompted students to be sent home early across West Virginia.

The state Department of Transportation says high water forced roads to close in at least 30 of the state's 55 counties by Wednesday evening.

Schools in at least 18 counties sent students home early because of high water and other storm-related issues.

In Logan County, the rain-swollen Guyandotte River washed away a temporary causeway connecting Madison Creek and Neibert Bottom.

In northern West Virginia, the National Weather Service says the Tygart Valley River is forecast to crest nearly 3 feet above flood stage Thursday in Belington and Philippi.

Up to a foot of snow was forecast in parts of the state by Thursday night.
