BC slates winter Open House events for prospective students

Prospective college students are invited to explore not only a career, but also their calling during Bluefield College's Winter Open House, Saturday, February 21, featuring campus tours, an academic and student organizations showcase, admissions and financial aid sessions, interaction with current students and faculty, and lunch in BC's dining hall.

Registration for the Winter Open House will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will include an Organizations Fair, showcasing the variety of student activities and service, academic, outdoor, athletic and other student organizations. The Organizations Fair will also exhibit BC's 17 intercollegiate sports teams, including men's baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field, and volleyball; and women's basketball, cheerleading, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

After a welcome session at 10 a.m., prospective students are invited to take part in a BC 360 session, featuring interaction with current BC students, faculty and staff, while parents will be offered the opportunity to take part in admissions and financial aid workshops.

At 11 a.m., all Winter Open House guests are invited to participate in an Academics Fair and campus tours. The Academics Fair will showcase the college's nearly 40 academic programs, including business, teacher education, communications, exercise and sports science, criminal justice, forensic science, behavioral science, Christian studies, and fine arts. The campus tours will feature BC's newest residence halls: East River Hall, a traditional, yet modern living-learning facility, and Bluestone Commons, a new on-campus apartment complex for independent student living. Also featured on the tour: 10 computer labs and 21 “SMART” classrooms with high-tech presentation devices, as well as the recently renovated Student Activities Center featuring a Coffeehouse setting and Quick Shott Cafe.

The day will end with lunch in BC's dining hall, along with the opportunity for additional time with BC admissions and financial aid counselors.

Prospective students with a passion for music may also attend a Music Showcase, Friday, February 20, the day prior to Winter Open House. Designed to tout the school's music program, the daylong Music Showcase for students considering a college major or even just extracurricular activity in music will expose participants to the full experience of being involved in music at Bluefield College through actual class attendance, interaction with current students and faculty, campus tours, and a performance by current BC music students and alumni. Prospective who wish to attend both the Music Showcase and Winter Open House will be offered an overnight stay in a BC residence hall with a current music student to experience even more of the campus life at Bluefield College.
