Arctic air invades the area

(WVVA) Very cold conditions and snow are impacting our region. This evenings main concern is for snow that will accumulate and cause roads to become slick. Very cold air and windy conditions will drive wind chill values dangerously low. As the arctic front moves through this evening, heavy bursts of snow are likely. The wind combined with the snow will cause whiteout conditions at times. Here is the breakdown of the current advisories and warnings.

Winter Weather Advisory for Wyoming, Raleigh, Fayette, western Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties for 2-4 inches of snow this afternoon and this evening, with locally higher amounts possible. 3-6 inches, with locally higher amounts are possible in Pocahontas County. A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for Wyoming County with wind chill values expected to drop to -5 to -15. A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for Raleigh, Fayette, Western Greenbrier and Pocahontas Counties for wind chill values -20 to -30. Air Temperatures will be in the 0 to -10 range. A Wind chill advisory is in effect for Wyoming County for values from -5 to -15.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until Sunday at 5am for Tazewell, Mercer, Summers and eastern Greenbrier counties for 1-4 inches of snow with locally higher amounts possible. A Wind Chill Warning is in effect until 9am for wind chill values -20 to -30. A wind advisory is also in effect until 9am Sunday. Wind gusts could be as high as 60 mph.

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for MCDOWELL AND BUCHANAN COUNTIES for wind chill values -5 to -15. A wind advisory is also in effect until 7pm tonight for gusts up to 50 mph. We're expecting 1-2 inches of snow here. There are no Winter Weather Advisories at this time.

A Wind Chill Warning and Wind Advisory is in effect for Bland, Giles and Monroe Counties until Sunday at 9am. Wind chill values down to -20 to -30, with wind gusts up to 60 mph. 1-2 inches of snow could fall in the western parts of these counties. Otherwise, just brutally cold!

In Wythe County, a High Wind Warning in effect for wind gusts that could reach 65 mph. A Wind Chill Warning is also in effect, for values from -20 to -30.>>
