A Raleigh County man is indicted for the murder of his wife

 MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) A Raleigh County man accused of shooting his wife in the chest with a shotgun is indicted in Mercer County.

According to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, Johnnie Ray Farley, 61, is has been indicted for the first-degree murder of Lynnette Denise Farley.

Mr. Farley reported is wife missing on September 29, 2014 to Troopers with the Beckley Detachment of the West Virginia State Police. At the time, Mr. Farley claimed the last time he saw his wife was four days prior at their home on Shriver Avenue near the community of Raleigh. According to the criminal complaint, further investigation yielded evidence that "showed Mr. Farley's statement was false."

Police say on October 3, Mr. Farley confessed to shooting his wife in the chest with a shotgun at property he owns on Egeria Road in Mercer County. According to court records, he then buried Lynnette Farley on the property. During the confession, he told investigators he placed a shovel, and a digging tool called a mattock in his truck prior to the murder.

Following the confession, Mr. Farley took officers to the location where his wife was buried.

Farley is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail without bond.
