Combs Sr. gets life plus 85 years for 2011 slaying

MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) One of two men charged in the robbery and murder of a Summers County man gets life in prison without mercy.

Oscar Combs Sr., 45, was sentenced on Wednesday for the April 2011 shooting death of James "Bo" Butler. Combs Sr. was sentenced to life in prison for murder, 85 years for robbery, and 1-5 years for conspiracy.

You may recall, Combs Sr. was convicted last month during a three-day trial.

Combs Sr., along with his son and wife, were originally charged in Butler's death. Oscar Combs Jr., 22, entered a guilty plea on November 4 to first degree murder with mercy. The charges against Linda Combs were dismissed in October in exchange for testifying against her husband and son.

According to previous testimony from Corporal Anthony Reed with the West Virginia State Police, the Combs' met with Butler on the Mercer County side of Herndon Mountain. Though we do not known why they met, it appears the motive for the murder was robbery. Butler died from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head. Oscar Combs Jr. has admitted to being the one who pulled the trigger. Reed says the two men dumped Butler's body in Wyoming County and disassembled his truck and got ride of the parts in various places. Butler's body was found two weeks later.
