Fayette County Schools forced to close part of of Collins Middle

Posted:

After an engineering team analyzed the structural integrity of Collins Middle School in Oak Hill, a decision was made by the Fayette County Board of Education to close part of the facility.  Board member Leon Ivey tells WVVA that main building is closing because it was found unsuitable for students and faculty.  Details of what led to the decision was not provided.

Ivey says going forward, the fifth and six grade students will remain in the approved section of the Collins Middle campus and will report to school tomorrow.  However, the current plan is to have the seventh grade students attend Fayetteville High School and eighth grade students attend Oak Hill High  School.  Those students will not attend school again until the particulars of the plan are laid out.  It's uncertain how long that will take.  In addition, there are meetings planned to further discuss the future of Collins Middle School at its students.

WVVA's Robert Pauley is working to bring us more details on this announcement.
