WELCH, WV (WVVA) Deputies in McDowell County arrest a Welch police officer for allegedly stalking and harassing his former lover.

Sherman Patrick McKinney, 52, of Welch was arraigned Wednesday. His bond was set at $1000.

According to the complaint, the female victim told investigators that at one time she had an intimate relationship with McKinney but had ended it  and reconciled with her husband.

She claims that since July, McKinney has used his "official capacity as an officer with the City of Welch Department to repeatedly follow and harass her and her family."

The harassment included initiating a traffic stop of the victim's vehicle to proposition her to have sexual intercourse with him, according to the complaint. The victim claims her 8 year old daughter was present at the time and suffered emotion stress.

"If there are any individuals out there that have had similar experiences [with McKinney] to contact the Sheriff's Office," says Sgt. James Muncy Jr.

The victims told investigators that she previously contacted the Welch city leaders and McKinney's supervisor but never heard anything back.

She also filed a domestic violence petition in Wyoming County Magistrate Court against McKinney on Tuesday.

WVVA reached out to Officer S.P. McKinney. He tells us that his attorney and employer have advised him not to comment. "I hope everyone will look at the end result instead of the beginning," say McKinney.
