Copper thieves disrupt communications in McDowell County

WELCH, WV (WVVA) Copper thieves cause service disruption for 240 Frontier Communications customers in McDowell County.

According to Frontier General Manager Mike Swatts, about 1,000 feet of cable was taken, leaving customers in the Big Sandy and Hensley areas without telephone and broadband service.

“These criminal acts affect Frontier customers who depend on their telephones and broadband to stay in contact with family, friends and emergency responders. Copper theft disrupts commerce and creates significant inconveniences for entire communities," says Swatts.

Local residents can anonymously report any known or suspected copper theft to Frontier's toll-free hotline at 1-800-590-6605. Thieves

stole 2500 feet of cable from Frontier on Dec. 3 in the Davy area.
