BSC student chapter of Enactus receives $1500 grant award from Walmart

(Bluefield)--The Bluefield State College student chapter of Enactus has received a $1500 grant award from Walmart. The Walmart “Women's Economic Empowerment Project Partnership grant will focus upon developing jobs preparedness and transition-to-workforce skills for women in this region. Enactus is an international organization that connects students, academic and business leaders through entrepreneurial-based projects that empower people to transform opportunities into real, sustainable progress for themselves and their communities.

BSC Enactus Vice-President Quintina Childress was the project lead in the development of the grant proposal. “This is the fourth time that the Bluefield State College Enactus team has received such an award,” noted Dr. Albert Berkoh, BSC Assistant Professor/Marketing. “Through the experience, our Enactus students sharpen their grant writing and leadership skills. The grant will help Enactus to make a contribution to the community through training and mentoring women, helping them acquire gainful jobs and be independent. We thank Walmart for the award”. Dr. Berkoh serves as Enactus chapter advisor and Mrs. Terry Thompson, Registrar, as Co-advisor.

“It is important to remember that everyone has a value and a purpose,” Childress noted. Sometimes women with the lack of job preparedness need to be encouraged that their dreams of being a productive individual in the working world can become a reality. With the help of grants such as the Walmart's Women Economic Empowerment Grant, women who take advantage of this opportunity, will be better prepared when applying for jobs.
