MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) The case against a Raleigh County man accused in the shooting death of his wife will head to the Grand Jury.

Johnnie Ray Farley, 60, is charged with the first-degree murder of Lynnette Denise Farley.

Mr. Farley reported is wife missing on September 29, 2014 to Troopers with the Beckley Detachment of the West Virginia State Police. At the time, Mr. Farley claimed the last time he saw his wife was four days prior at their home on Shriver Avenue near the community of Raleigh. According to the criminal complaint, further investigation yielded evidence that "showed Mr. Farley's statement was false."

Police say on October 3, Mr. Farley confessed to shooting his wife  in the chest with a shotgun at property he owns on Egeria Road in Mercer County. According to court records, he then buried Lynnette Farley on the property. During the confession, he told investigators he placed a shovel, and a digging tool called a mattock in his truck prior to the murder.

Following the confession, Mr. Farley took officers to the location where his wife was buried.

During Wednesday's preliminary hearing, probable cause was found and the case was bound over to the Grand Jury.

The trial is scheduled for December.
