LEWISBURG, WV (WVVA) One person is injured after a single-engine plane makes a hard landing at the Greenbrier Valley Airport.

WVVA has learned that the pilot of  the plane was taken by a medical helicopter from the scene to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The pilot has been identified as Greg Stoneman, 65, of Ashland, Virginia. He is listed in serious condition.

The plane was taking-off from the airport sometime around 1 p.m. Monday when it went down. A witness to the event says the plane took off, then dropped down, then climbed upwards again before making a hard landing in a grassy field. According to officials at the Greenbrier Valley Airport, the plane was for sale and the pilot was a potential buyer.

According to data from the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane is a 1962 fixed wing, single-engine aircraft built by Mooney Aviation Company.

It could take up to six months before the FAA will release an official cause of the crash.
