Wyoming Co. man charged with slaying takes plea to first-degree murder with mercy

MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) One of three people of the same family charged in the murder of a Summers County man enters a plea to first-degree murder with mercy.

Oscar Combs Jr., 22, of Herndon, WV along with Linda Combs and Oscar Combs Sr. were charged with the April 2011 murder of James "Bo" Butler. According to police, Butler died from a single gunshot wound to the head. The murder took place on the Mercer County side of Herndon Mountain. Butler's body was dumped off Crumpler Road in Herndon.. Police say the motive was robbery and Oscar Combs Jr. was the one who pulled the trigger.. 

Investigators say the men also disassembled the Butler's truck , taking the parts to various places in Mercer and Wyoming counties.

The charges against Linda Combs were dismissed in October in exchange for testifying against her husband and son. 

Oscar Combs Sr. was scheduled to go to trial on Wednesday, November 5, but the date is now set as a status hearing. 

Oscar Combs Jr. also entered a plea to first-degree robbery on Monday.
