35th annual Bridge Day held at the New River Gorge Bridge

FAYETTE COUNTY (WVVA) Thousand of visitors flock to the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayette County to watch adrenaline seekers plunge 876 feet off one of the world's most recognized steel arch bridge. It is the longest steel arch bridge in the Western hemisphere and the second highest bridge in the U.S.

Pedestrian traffic is not allowed on the New River Gorge Bridge except on the third Saturday in October. Most than 450 B.A.S.E. jumpers attend the event every year and 200 people will rappel off the bridge which spans1,700 feet. The total length of the bridge is around 3,030 feet, according to Bridge Day's official website.

HISTORY OF BRIDGE DAY AND FACTS

More than 80,000 people attended Bridge Day last year, enjoying the high-flying action and the beautiful fall colors of the New River Gorge. Hundreds of vendors are also on site.
