Man Arrested in High-speed Police Chase Waives Hearing

 Beckley (WVVA) A man arrested in a high-speed police chase waives his right to a preliminary hearing in Beckley on Friday.

Jerry Gunter is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges including malicious wounding, fleeing from police and second offense DUI.

The chase began on April 8th, on Robert C. Byrd Drive in Beckley. That's when police attempted to stop Gunter in an SUV for a defective brake light.

While fleeing police, Gunter struck another vehicle at Piney Avenue. An officer attempted break out Gunter's driver's side window but Gunter was able to restart the vehicle and return to Byrd Drive. The chase ended a short time later near Ollie's.

Gunter also struck a Beckley Police cruiser in the process.

His case will now head to Raleigh County Circuit Court.
