Reactions to same-sex marriage in West Virginia

(WVVA) Marriage licenses are expected to be issued for same-sex couples in west virginia next week.We learned this afternoon that West Virginia will not fight a court challenge to the state's ban on same sex marriage, potentially clearing the way for same sex couples to wed.

Attorney general Patrick Morrisey said today that his office would no longer fight a court challenge to the state's ban. He says his office will respect the recent U.S. Supreme court decision, but that he still doesn't agree with the stance.

Today we caught up with people for their reaction and Revered Ricky Adkins tells WVVA, "on that day I will be calling the secretary of states office so that my name will be removed from the role to perform marriage in this state..and i will no longer perform marriage."

Amber Berry tells WVVA she's excited to be treated equally, "It's going to be an emotional experience to see the happiness and the love and the tears that are going to come out of this. Just the happiness of seeing people get to do what they've always wanted to do. This is a human rights issue. Now we're going to be treated the same as everyone else."

In a statement, officials with the West Virginia department of Health and Human Resources say they expect county clerks across the state to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples by Tuesday, October, 14 at the latest.
