Judge denies testimony from alleged victim in 'Warlock' sex crimes case

MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) Judge denies testimony from alleged victim in the case against a Bluefield man accused of multiple sex crimes against children.

James Irvin, 57, is charged with 10 counts of sexual abuse and five counts of sexual assault against three juvenile victims. Irvin was arrested back in April at his home on Giles Street in Bluefield, WV.

The mother of two of the alleged victims, Jessica Barela, faces a total of 30 counts of first degree sexual abuse and first degree sexual assault. According to the criminal complaint, one victim says her mother, Jessica Barela, believed Irvin was a "magical Warlock" and " was going to have to do something to keep her well which involved magic with Irvin."

James Irvin and Jessica Barela will have separate trials.

James Irvin has another hearing scheduled Tuesday, September 30. WVVA has learned the testimony of an alleged victim who now lives in Texas will not be allowed during the trial. The alleged abuse in that instance would have taken place 25 years ago. Irvin is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bond.

The trial against Jessica Barela is scheduled for January 27. She remains free on bond.
