News release from Tazewell Co. Sheriff's Office on two inmates caught at Walmart

On 9/16/14 at approximately 12:30pm two inmates on a work detail ran from their assignment down a hill and into the Bluefield, Va. Walmart. Deputies proceeded to pursue the two inmates into Walmart immediately taking them into custody within 15-20 minutes of leaving their work area. The two inmates are 18 year old Michael A. Hess of Tazewell, Va. and 18 year old Austin T. Harmon of Richlands, Va. Both were being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority, Tazewell Facility since April 2014. Hess is being held on a charge of Robbery and Harmon is being held for a charge of violation of a court order.

At this time it is unclear if this event was pre-planned by these two individuals, an additional charge of Escape has been obtained on both suspects and their quick trip down the hill to Walmart may have cost them five additional years in prison. They are currently being held at the Regional Jail Authority and an investigation into this matter continues. The quick response of deputies and officers had the inmates in their custody where they were immediately taken to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.
