Fayette County man is acquitted of sex crimes against his son

Fayetteville (WVVA) A verdict is reached in the trial of a Fayette County man accused of sex crimes against his son.

Mark Critchley was found not guilty of first degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a parent or guardian.

In closing arguments, prosecutors worked to paint Critchley, a firefighter with the Danese Fire Dept., as a dangerous predator -- pointing to a disclosure made by the 6-year old boy about an alleged incident at the suspect's home on November 9th, 2013.

But while the prosecution reached for a conviction, the defense punch holes in the testimony of their witnesses, calling into question the amount of time the mother waited to report the incident and find counseling for her son.

At the end of the day, there wasn't enough evidence to lead the jury to a conviction. Critchley was set free.
