Richlands man busted growing $350,000 worth of pot

Tazewell County deputies spent part of their Labor Day holiday arresting a Richlands man on marijuana charges.  Officers found 115 marijuana plants, over a pound of harvested marijuana, and three firearms inside the home of Roger Lee Sparks Jr., 38, of Richlands.   Deputy Andrew Jarvis made the discovery after obtaining a search warrant for Spark's home.  Jarvis and other deputies found a room that had been converted to grow marijuana plants.  A street value of the seized drugs is estimated at $350,000.

Sparks has been charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession of a firearm with more than a pound of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition by a felon, and possession of marijuana with the intent to sell or distribute.

“The hard work of these deputies have prevented large amounts of marijuana from going out and being sold on the streets.” Says Sheriff Brian Hieatt.

Among other charges, Sparks has previously been charged with robbery, manufacture of controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and distribution of marijuana. Currently he is being held without bond at the Southwest Regional Jail Authority in Tazewell.
