Charges dropped against Beckley "Ice Cream Man," for now; inmate charged for injuries

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- Charges are dropped, for the time being, against the Beckley "Ice Cream Man," and an inmate is charged with his beating.

Alvin Jessup could not make his preliminary hearing Thursday because he has been hospitalized and is in critical condition after a fight in Southern Regional Jail.

A preliminary hearing must be held within 10 days of the arrest, and no extension was ordered because it's unclear when he'll be out of the hospital.

Arresting officer, James Quesenberry, says Jessup will be indicted on charges of possession of child pornography, possession of child erotica, third-degree sexual assault, prostitution and criminal invasion of privacy upon release from the hospital.

Another development in this case, inmate Justin Hughes is charged with malicious wounding and battery for Jessup's injuries.  Hughes was in jail, originally, for a misdemeanor charge in Monroe County.
