Smartphone use up 60 percent at state fair

FAIRLEA (WVVA) AT&T is experiencing a huge increase in the amount of data being shared at the State Fair of West Virginia.

So far, more than 881 gigabyte of data has crossed the mobile network in Fairlea. That is equivalent to more than 2.5 million social media posts with photos, according to AT&T-a 60 percent increase compared to last year's fair.

The busiest traffic day at this point was Saturday, August 9, when about 311 gigabyte of data crossed the network.

AT&T is using a temporary 5-beam LTE antenna called a COW or Cell on Wheels to handle the influx in mobile phone use at the fairgrounds.
