Animals removed from Mercer County puppy mill

MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) More than two dozen animals are rescued from a Mercer County home.

Tuesday evening, law enforcement officers were called to a home on Hatcher Hollow Road after a report of an illegal puppy mill.

Police say the homeowner was not licensed  to sell the animals for money. Officers were able to convince the unidentified homeowner to surrender 29 dogs.

The dogs are now in the care of the Mercer County Animal Shelter. Some have been exposed to parvovirus, but none have tested positive for the disease.

Animal Control Officer Elizabeth Morehead says the animals will be quarantined for 10 days. After that time, they should be available for adoption.
