Dirty Girl Mud Run in Charleston canceled

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Organizers of a Charleston running event that was canceled for this weekend says it won't issue refunds.

Organizers of the Dirty Girl Mud Run issued a statement Wednesday saying refunds will not be issued "under any circumstances." The event had been scheduled for Saturday at Charleston's Cato Park with up to 2,500 participants expected.

Rod Blackstone, an assistant to Mayor Danny Jones, says organizers had been trying to work out financial issues with the event. The Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau issued a statement saying the race producer missed a Tuesday afternoon deadline for a payment to a shuttle company that was to provide transportation to the event.

The 5-kilometer run for women of all ages involves obstacles and mud pits. Events are held across the country.
