"Hollow" documentary showing in Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. (WVVA)- There was a special showing of the documentary "Hollow" at our nation's Capitol on Tuesday. "Hollow" is a film by Elaine McMillion about the "boom and bust" of McDowell County, W. Va.

The southern West Virginia county had a population of around 100,000 during its boom days in the 1940's and 1950's. The enormous growth during the early 20th Century was due the vast supplies of coal and the need for manpower to extract the resource. Nowadays, the population is just over 22,000.

"Hollow" is an interactive documentary that includes hundreds of historical pictures and interviews from 30 current residents of McDowell County.
