Commission seeks funding to repair Mercer Co. courthouse roof

Posted:
PRINCETON, W. Va (WVVA)-- People in Mercer County say the courthouse is in need of repairs.

The roof on the west wing of the historical building is old and leaky, according to commissioners.

They've received a $46,200 grant from the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office to work on it.

In some places, water has actually leaked into courtrooms, said commissioner Mike Vinciguerra. commissioners tell us-- so judges have used trash cans to catch the water.

"It's also messed up inside the courthouse. We'd like to get the roof fixed because we've got it patched now so it doesn't leak like it did, but if we can get it fixed we can get someone to repair the inside."

This grant only covers half of the total cost of the project, because it was a 50/50 grant he said.  The commission is working to secure funding to pay for the rest.
