Z-way construction delayed in congress

BECKLEY, WV (WVVA) - A main artery through Beckley has hit a road block in congress.

Construction is underway on an extension of the Beckley bypass that would connect Stanaford to Robert C. Byrd drive.

It's part of the Z-way project to improve traffic flow through the area.

But according to Bill Baker, Chairman of the Beckley-Raleigh county transportation authority, funding for the project is tied up in Washington.

"Surely our congressman, regardless of what party, will understand the importance of building roads in the country and put their differences aside and resolve this."

If congress doesn't authorize the state to use money from the highway trust fund, Baker says work on the project will stall, resulting in additional delays for travelers.
