Weekday Morning and Noon Meteorologist

Katherine Thompson

Growing up in Swepsonville, a small town in the Piedmont-Triad of North Carolina, Katherine became interested in meteorology after experiencing Hurricane Fran in 1996 and the 2002 Dec. 4-5 storm, which brought nearly an inch of ice cover to her hometown. Her developing infatuation with weather led her to North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, where she undertook the task of earning a B.S. degree in Meteorology and also helped to lead NC State's Broadcast Meteorology organization, "NCSU Weather".

After graduating in May 2014, Katherine joined the WVVA Precision Weather Team as the morning meteorologist shortly after, in July 2014. In addition to her degree in meteorology, Katherine also holds a B.A. degree in History, and is extremely excited to not only forecast the mountain weather of the Two Virginias, but also to visit the the numerous historical sites around the viewing area. Katherine enjoys playing a good game of softball, badminton, or ping-pong in her spare time, and also likes to sing, (whether or not someone is listening).

You can reach Katherine by e-mailing kthompson@wvva.com.
