Man arrested after high-speed pursuit on I-77


BLAND (WVVA) - A high-speed chase on I-77 ends with a man crashing into a cruiser.

According to Sgt. Reece with Virginia State Police, the pursuit started near mile marker 49 on 77 North in Virginia, just before 3 p.m. Sunday.

The officer was attempting to pull the 1999 Camaro over for speeding and an equipment violation.

The chase lasted about 15 minutes and reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. It ended off exit 64 on Rock Quarry Road.

When the driver, Eric Robinson, attempted to turn around on the dead-end road, he smashed into the trooper head on.

Robinson is facing charges of reckless driving, assault on police officer, resisting arrest and felony alluding police.

The investigation is ongoing as to why Robinson took off. He wasn't wanted or impaired.
