2014 Jays Look To Retain Mercer Cup

Posted:
BLUEFIELD, Va. (WVVA) -- The Appalachian League baseball season gets underway this week and with it, a clean slate when it comes to the Mercer Cup. Right now, the cup belongs to the Bluefield Blue Jays and they want to keep it another year.

The Jays rolled into town Sunday and had the chance to meet fans and really get the opportunity to hear about the Mercer Cup and its history.

"Trust me, these guys know about the Mercer Cup," said manager Dennis Holmberg. "They'll see the trophy inside the clubhouse and they'll get up to speed real quick. Hopefully we can keep it and own it another year."

The Jays open their season, Thursday against Johnson City.
