ALDERSON (WVVA) -  A pair has been arrested after allegedly taking more than $50,000 from a safe and buying a Jeep, ATV and more.

Rainelle Police Chief J.P. Stevens says approximately $54,000 was stolen from a safe at a home in the Alderson area.

Suspects in the case, Melissa Bennett and Lloyd Hamrick, were later apprehended at the Motor Lodge in Rainelle with around $21,000 of the cash left.

Police say the couple was also in possession of a Jeep, an ATV, several lotto tickets and various drugs including Oxycontin.

Both Bennett and Hamrick have been charged with daytime burglary, grand larceny and conspiracy -- all felonies -- and a misdemeanor charge of destruction of property.

Other charges are pending.
