PANTHER (WVVA) - Recovery efforts were underway in the Panther area of McDowell County -- a day after quickly rising waters damaged homes, cars and roads.

Tetanus shots were being offered at Betty's Diner in Bull Creek from 10-11:30 a.m. and the Panther Fire Department from 12-3 p.m.

DOH crews were working to repair roads damaged by the high water. Motorists -- both cars and ATVs -- were advised to avoid travel on Mud Fork and Right Hand Fork roads as crews worked to repair damage.

WVVA's Kristen Conner is back in McDowell County today and will have the latest updates on flood recovery efforts today on WVVA and WVVA.com.

PANTHER (WVVA) - Houses were destroyed and roads torn up in McDowell County after a strong storm brought pre-dawn flooding early Thursday morning.

The Bull Creek area of Panther was the worst hit. Teresa Van Dyke, the county's Emergency Services Director, estimated that nearly 25 families were cut-off after their driveways either gave way or were blocked by water and debris.

One home was even washed off its foundation.

Panther residents said the water rose faster than they'd ever seen.

Sheriff's deputies, McDowell County Emergency Services and Division of Highways teams surveyed the aftermath to determine what kind of assistance the area needs.

Road crews will need to wait until the water recedes more before repairs can begin.

There were no reported injuries or no severe health risks, according to health department workers.
