Mercer teacher retiring after 37 years

BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - A Mercer County teacher is retiring after 37 years in the classroom.

Blanche Morton, an eighth grade teacher at Bluefield middle school is cleaning up her classroom for the last time.

Morton started her career at Montcalm, then went on to teach at Bluefield Central Junior High, which is now Bluefield Middle.

She says she'll miss her work family the most and working in such a loving environment. She even has a few words of advice for new teachers.

"Be committed, be concerned and be loving toward your students and be compassionate. You have to love teaching, you have to," Morton said.

Her plans after retirement are primarily to take care of her sick husband, tutor children and volunteer at her church.
