Cars broken into in Glenwood area

GLENWOOD (WVVA) - According to Mercer County Sheriff's deputies, at least fifteen cars were broken into in the Lilac Hills area of Glenwood within just the past two weeks.

Firearms, cash, and CDs are among the stolen items.

Police believe the cars were unlocked at the time, and they say that's not a good habit if you want to protect your belongings.

Chief Deputy D. B. Bailey says, "First and foremost is to lock your vehicle because I'm pretty sure just about in every case we had, there was no forced entry so we are assuming the vehicles were unlocked at the time. Just make sure your car's locked."

Bailey also suggests shining a light or using a motion-detected light in the area near your vehicle to deter anyone who comes close to it.
