Graham Boys & Girls Win SEC Tournaments

Posted:
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) -- It's been a pretty good week for Graham high school athletics. Both the boys and girls soccer teams won Southern Empire Conference Tournaments this week.

The G-Men defeated Tazewell 5-2, while the G-Girls beat Richlands 5-1.

"We started February 24 and practiced hard every day," said boys head coach George Aiello. "They work hard in practice, the gym and on the field and the last few weeks, they began to mesh and playing well together."

Now all four teams move on to regional play where home field advantage will, once again, be crucial for both Graham teams. The tournament will be held at the East River Soccer Complex.

"We want to get to the regional championship and go to state. It's been our goal since the beginning of the season," said girls head coach Hank Furry. "We feel like we're one of the better teams in this part of the state and we want to show some of the northern teams we can compete with them too."
