UPDATE: Tractor-trailer crash causes major delays on I-77

BLAND (WVVA) - A tractor-trailer crash blocked both southbound lanes of Interstate 77 in Wythe County for several hours Friday, causing lengthy delays for many Memorial Weekend motorists.

No injuries were reported in the accident, which occurred around 7:45 a.m. Friday near Big Walker Mountain Tunnel.

Sgt. M.T. Conroy says the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was checked at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

Conroy said the truck was carrying a load of laminate-like material used for construction.

One lane of traffic was opened around 10 a.m. Traffic was also still being detoured onto Route 52.

Both lanes were re-opened by 5 p.m.


BLAND (WVVA) - Both southbound lanes of Interstate 77 are currently blocked due to a tractor-trailer crash.

The crash occurred near mile marker 46, near Big Walker Mountain tunnel where the truck overturned. Approximately 100 yards of guardrail was damaged at the crash scene.

Motorists tell WVVA News that traffic is backed up for miles. Expect lengthy delays.

There's no word at this time on injuries or what caused the crash. WVVA will provide more details as they become available.
