UPDATE: Matoaka house fire appears intentional

MATOAKA (WVVA) - Firefighters in Matoaka say a blaze that destroyed an abandoned home Tuesday evening may have been intentionally set.

Assistant Fire Chief John Sommers tells WVVA News that traces of an accelerant were found on the property. 

The fire department is now working with the Mercer County Sheriff's Office in the arson investigation.


MATOAKA (WVVA) - An abandoned home in Matoaka was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene Tuesday evening.

Crews from several departments including Matoaka, Montcalm, East River and Bluewell responded to the call at 5:18 p.m., according to Mercer County 911 dispatch.

No injuries were reported. The home was a complete loss.

The cause is unknown at this time.
