BECKLEY (WVVA) - A Raleigh County man has been arrested after police find the makings of a meth lab in a basement.

Officers responded to a home at 112 Clyde Street in Beckley Sunday night after receiving a complaint from a woman who stated that Charles Fortner was in her basement but was not allowed to be there.

According to the criminal complaint, officers found Fortner, 40, in the basement, along with a book bag that contained ingredients used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, including fuel, drain opener, cold packs, lithium batteries and pseudoephedrine. There was also an empty pill bottle belonging to Fortner.

Fortner told police the bag was not his, the complaint states.

Meth-making ingredients that had already been used were also found in trash bags in the basement and garage.

Fortner is charged with two counts of operating or attempting to operate a clandestine lab and trespassing.

He's being held at Southern Regional Jail on $25,000 bond.
