HINTON, W. Va (WVVA)-- Police have confirmed they are investigating the Hinton Little League's finances, after money apparently went missing over the summer.

This was initially upsetting for its leaders and many parents whose children play, but the Little League is working on bouncing back.

Cris Meadows, Vice President of the Hinton Little League's Board of Directors, said several thousand dollars are unaccounted for. He said this came to leaders' attention when a check for new uniforms bounced.

"Money should have been collected throughout the season to pay for those," he said, "and it just wasn't there. We don't know where it went... or if it was even collected."

Meadows added that leaders are still not sure what happened to those funds.

But the news here isn't all bad. Leaders told WVVA that community members have since stepped in to help, donating enough funds to put the little league back in action, and then some.

"We can say we are on solid ground again," said Meadows. "We [are very thankful] for that.".

Parents like Mark Fox, whose son Logan plays on team and who also sponsors the Ronald Meadows Funeral Home team, told us the community support has been great. He said losing the league w
ould have been an even bigger loss for the children who love playing the game.

"In our community there's very little things the children can do," said Fox, "and [this] gives them an outlet they can participate in."

Hinton Police are still investigating the case. There haven't been any charges made so far.

Meadows said new officers have been brought in to run the organization since the missing money was discovered, and now the league has even more volunteers helping out, making it better than ever.
