MOUNT HOPE (WVVA) - A pair of Fayette County residents have been arrested after picking up a special delivery from Colorado that contained more than a pound and a half of marijuana.

Norah Almahbub, 31, and Clinton Torrez, 35 -- both of Mount Hope -- were arrested Tuesday at the Mount Hope Post Office after leaving with the package addressed to their home at 518 Sherwood Heights.

According to the criminal complaint, the postmaster alerted police after noticing a strong odor emitting from the package. The responding officer suspected the odor to be marijuana.

Police were notified again when the suspects arrived to claim the package. Once outside the building with the package, police ordered Torrez to drop the package. Torrez attempted to flee but was restrained without further incident.

The package was opened and found to contain multiple plastic bottles that held several buds of marijuana.

The marijuana totaled 24.5 ounces and has an estimated street value of $3,000.

The suspects are each charged with possession of a controlled substance and  conspiracy. Both are being held at Southern Regional Jail on $50,000 bond each.
