State police bust cockfighting operation

Princeton, West Virginia - West Virginia State Troopers cited two Mercer County residents for hosting an illegal venture in connection to reports of cockfighting.  On Saturday, April 12, 2014, troopers joined the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and responded to 451 Browns Cemetery Road, near Oakvale, West Virginia after receiving information concerning cock fighting.  Upon arrival, officers say it was evident that a cock fighting event had recently occurred. 

Two roosters were found to be severely injured.  Game fighting spurs covered in blood were recovered from the scene.  As a result, six fighting roosters were seized by law enforcement officers.  The property owner, Mr. Stacey Brown, 43 and his brother, Mr. Gilbert Brown, 45, both of Princeton, were cited for hosting an illegal venture.  Three others present received citations for being in attendance of an illegal venture.
