BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) -- After Friday night's rain,  the Coppinger Invitational Baseball tournament is officially underway. Eight teams hit the field Saturday at both Bowen Field in Bluefield and Hunnicutt Field in Princeton.

Richlands defeated Fayetteville in the tournament's opening game at Bowen field. Pikeview and Tazewell matched up in the second game. Lucas Parsons had a strong day on the mound for the Bulldogs. The game also featured a triple play. With runners on first and second, Pikeview's Austin Cordell lined out to Parsons on the mound, who immediately threw the ball to Brett Jones at third. Jones doubled up the runners at second and shortstop Brody Dean finished the triple play with a throw to first. Tazewell went on to win 7-2.

Princeton won big in one of the two evening games at Hunnicutt field. They beat Mount View 26-2 to advance to the next round. Bluefield also won its opening game, defeating Montcalm 7-0. Bluefield's Trevor Mullins had a monster day on the hill, fanning 13 batters.
