BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - Bluefield Regional Medical Center has eliminated "approximately 15" jobs from its on-site business operations, hospital spokesperson Rebekah Ritter said in a news release Friday.

Ritter says some of the affected employees have been moved to other positions on-site, making the actual number of those losing jobs "less than 10."

Ritter says the move will not affect patient care, and was done as a means to help the hospital operate with more efficiency.

The affected business office functions will now be handled at a remote location shared by other hospitals. Other key business responsibilities will remain staffed on-site.

A job fair was held Friday for affected employees and the hospital is "doing what we can to help find placement for as many of them as possible," the release states.

Severance will be provided to the affected employees based on years of service.

Following is the full news release from BRMC:

All hospitals are considering how to operate with more efficiency. As we’ve explored options that won’t affect patient care, we have made the decision to move some of our business office functions, such as billing, to a remote location shared with other hospitals. Although we will retain positions at the hospital that handle other key business responsibilities and face-to-face customer interactions, this move will result in a staff adjustment of approximately 15 positions. We are retaining a number of affected employees by moving them to other open positions at our hospital, minimizing the actual loss of jobs to less than 10. Today we held a job fair for affected employees and we are doing what we can to help find placement for as many of them as possible. Severance will be provided based on years of service.

High-quality care for our patients is always our top priority. These adjustments will not impact the level of care provided for our patients. We remain focused on efficient operations so we can continue our commitment to providing excellent healthcare services for our patients and the community for the long term.
