Victims identified after multi-vehicle crash on I-81


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia State Police have released the identities of two people killed in a multi-vehicle accident in whiteout conditions on Interstate 81.
State Police in Martinsburg identified the victims as 65-year-old Mitchell Duane Dobbins of Hagerstown, Md., and 73-year-old Rejeanne Bernier of Granby, Quebec.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene of Wednesday's accident in the northbound lanes in the Falling Waters area.

Trooper M.D. Gillmore says 49 vehicles were involved, including 13 tractor-trailers. In addition to the two fatalities, several other people were taken to three different hospitals for treatment of injuries from the accident in the snowstorm.
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. (AP) -- Three people are dead following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in the Falling Waters area of Berkeley County.
   A Berkeley County Central Dispatch supervisor says the wreck involved seven vehicles, including a tractor-trailer. The supervisor identified herself as operator 4.
   She says the accident occurred in the northbound lanes and was reported at 8:37 a.m. Wednesday. Witnesses told dispatchers that road conditions were slippery at the time.
   Two other accidents also were reported on I-81 in the area Wednesday morning.
   Both the northbound and southbound lanes are closed.
