Raleigh County is alive with the sound of music

BEAVER (WVVA) -- The best kept secret in Raleigh County is out.  While Beaver might not be Nashville, young musical and creative talents are still starting there.

Students are being fostered at The School of Harmony.  The school rests about four miles south of Beckley off of Route 19.  It has become home to more than 400 students since it opened in 2005.

The School of Harmony has received both regional and state recognition.  Most recently, in September 2013, they started a fundraising initiative to become an "All-Steinway" school.  They are trying to meet the $750,000 goal in five years.  So far they have raised $20,000 and are close to being able to bring their first Steinway to the school.

Beyond piano, the School of Harmony offers lessons in voice, guitar, mandolin, violin, ukulele, banjo and dance.  Students range from pre-school age to adult.  Graduates of the School of Harmony have gone on to perform at the collegiate level.

For more information on the school, you can go to their website www.schoolofharmony.com.  They hope to have 500 students enrolled in the next two to three years and are always looking for volunteers and sponsors.
