UPDATE:

As of 6:45 PM, crews were still on the scene of a fire that destroyed a Mercer County home Wednesday afternoon.

Crews from Green Valley-Glenwood, Bluewell, East River, and Oakvale responded to the call at the house on Ceres Road, and the WV Division of Forestry came out to supervise a small brush fire that also sparked from the blaze.

The family living in the home tells WVVA they were not hurt, but they lost 2 dogs in the fire.

Firefighters were having a difficult time securing enough water to fight the blaze. Tankers were shuttling back and forth from the scene to keep enough on the flames.

The home was completely destroyed. Although its cause is under investigation, firefighters did say they believe it began in the garage, then spread to the home.

The owner kept some gunpowder and ammunition for reloading on his property, which became combustible due to the high heat and flames.
