Herrion Out at Marshall

Posted:

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Marshall athletic director Mike Hamrick says men's basketball coach Tom Herrion has resigned after the Thundering Herd went 11-22 this season.

Hamrick announced the move Friday, two days after Marshall lost to Old Dominion in the second round of the Conference USA tournament.

The 46-year-old Herrion went 67-67 in four seasons but just 24-41 in his final two years.

Marshall lost its top seven scorers from a year ago. Herrion parted ways last May with DeAndre Kane, who graduated, transferred to Iowa State and was an all-Big 12 first round selection this season. Elijah Pittman led Marshall in scoring through the first nine games before he was suspended indefinitely in December and never returned.

Before coming to Marshall in 2010, Herrion spent three seasons as an assistant at Pittsburgh.
