MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) - Ceres Elementary School has found a potential new home.

The Mercer County School District needs a $9 million grant to come through, which will allow the school to relocate less than a mile from its current location.

Concerns have often been raised about the school's close proximity to the road in front, but officials say there are a number of reasons the school desperately needs to move.

"The school is old, the children are out of space," said Kellan Sarles, Information Specialist for the district.  "They don't have the basic things that many elementary schools have, like a gymnasium or a multipurpose room.  The cafeteria serves every purpose there.  The classrooms are crowded.  They have students in the portable building behind the school.  And even the school's tiny little library in just in the corner of one of the fourth grade classrooms."

Superintendent Deborah Akers will present their case Tuesday to West Virginia's School Building Authority.

The decision will be made by April 28th
