WELCH (WVVA) - The man convicted of murdering War Mayor Tom Hatcher has been sentenced to life in prison.

Earl Click's sentence was handed down in Judge Stephens' courtroom Wednesday morning.

Click addressed the court before learning his sentence, saying he was sorry to the victim's family for their loss, but did not agree with the outcome of the trial.

Judge Stephens responded to Click, saying "you can maintain your innocence... but you are not showing remorse or sorrowfulness for the events of this case."

Hatcher's sister also addressed the court, asking for the maximum sentence. She asked Judge Stephens to "show Earl Click the same mercy he showed my brother Thomas Hatcher when he brutally killed him."

Click was also sentenced to 1-5 years on a conspiracy conviction. The two sentences will run consecutively.

Click will be eligible to appear before a parole board after 15 years.

WVVA's Kristen Conner was in the court for the sentencing. She will have more this evening on WVVA News.
