FAYETTEVILLE (WVVA) - No signs of trauma were found after autopsies were performed on a pair of Fayette County infants found deceased in their Hilltop area home Tuesday.

The preliminary results show that the children did not suffer from any trauma, including suffocation or strangulation, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

A final determination on the cause of death cannot be made until toxicology tests have been completed, Sheriff Steve Kessler said in the news release.

Samples of hair, urine and blood will be tested to determine if either child possibly ingested any toxic substances.

The case remains under a non-criminal investigation.

HILLTOP (WVVA) - The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is investigating the deaths of two infants in the Hilltop area.

Deputies responded to a home in the Mountainair Mobile Home Park around 9 a.m. Tuesday after reports of a one-year-old and 3-month old unconscious and not breathing.

Captain Jim Sizemore said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference that the mother found the 3-month-old not breathing in his bed. She then discovered his one-year-old sister was also not breaking.

CPR was performed on the infants until EMS arrived on scene. The infants were transported to Plateau Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

The cause of the deaths is unknown at this time.  The bodies are being taken to the state medical examiner's office for autopsies.

Authorities said there's no indication of foul play, but the case remains under investigation.
